Which part gets cropped?
The crop is centered โ equal amounts trimmed from both edges. If your subject is off-center, the blurred-background mode keeps the entire frame visible instead.
Does resizing lose quality?
Downscaling keeps things crisp. Fitting a horizontal video into a vertical frame inevitably shows it smaller โ that is geometry, not a defect. The encode uses a quality-focused H.264 setting.
Why is the file bigger/smaller after resizing?
The video is re-encoded. A 9:16 crop of a 16:9 video has fewer pixels, so it is usually smaller; the blurred-background mode renders the full frame, so it can be comparable to the original.
