WAV's Apple-born twin
AIFF has carried uncompressed audio on Macs since 1988 — Logic and Pro Tools sessions bounce to it, sample libraries ship in it. It holds the same PCM audio as WAV in a different wrapper, with the same catch: about 10 MB per minute, plus Windows software that occasionally raises an eyebrow at the extension.
